| Rock undermined by markets
You make several very good points that are very hard to disprove. I certainly didn't intend to imply that there is no risk attached to the loan. That really would be foolish of me. As I said, I was mearly trying to play devils advocate to Mr Peston's (in my opinion) overly doom and gloom attitude. If I am reading correctly, your very last sentance answers your second point. I certainly don't expect to see any share of any potential profit that the Bank/Treasury may make! Its all an issue of confidence really, I have confidence that the Rock will pull through (likely under a different name..) and that the Bank will not lose any money. Plenty of people have differing opinions and that's fine by me. I do agree with point 4, but would take it a bit further..
Readers come to defense of Inge
When Press columnist David Mayo took exception to Brandon Inge's refusal to grant interviews during a promotional stop Friday at Van Andel Arena, it struck a nerve with baseball fans. Mayo was highly critical of Inge ("Inge plays role of cowardly Tiger," Saturday, Jan. 19). The Detroit Tigers third baseman has refused interviews since he told team officials last month he wants to be traded, after the Tigers acquired All-Star third baseman Miguel Cabrera. The popularity of Inge, a former West Michigan Whitecaps player, remains strong, according to these letters. Inge not obligated What a sorry job of reporting by Mr. Mayo. Or maybe I should say whining. I'm not sure where it is written that an athlete like Brandon Inge has to give an interview. Inge was invited by the Griffins to meet the public and sign a few autographs.

This morning, Juan Pablo Montoya announced he will replace Casey Mears in the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Dodge Charger next season. Clearly, there's nothing silly about this "Silly Season." Karin from Sidney, Ohio: I have read that Sadler is driving a Roush chassis this weekend. Is RYR receiving any help engineering-wise from Roush at the track with this car or are they on their own with it? Tom Jensen: As far as I'm aware, RYR has purchased some chassis from Roush, but unless things have changed, RYR is on its own as far as engineering goes. Gary from E. Granby, Conn.: Is Bill Elliott still associated with Evernham in any way shape or form? Tom Jensen: Bill Elliott does not have any races scheduled with Evernham for this season.

Mariah Carey paid "TRL" a visit on Wednesday (October 24) and gabbed about her new fragrance line and upcoming studio album. "I've been working on this record while I'm working on the fragrance," she revealed, saying that her yet-untitled LP and just-released M by Mariah Carey line "kind of work together." "I wanted [the fragrance] to be sensual. ... It's really been like writing a song ... this was almost the same creative process." She also explained why she pushed back her yet-untitled album, which had previously been scheduled for December 4, to next year. "You can't really put records out in December if you want the whole world to have a chance to actually hear it, [and] my fans all over the world are very important to me," she said, adding that she also wants to put out a pair of singles before the album drops.
